combine to make Derby Day one of the great British sporting experiences
and an opportunity for Londoners from all walks of life to have
a grand day out. But, for those who view travelling exposed to
the whims of the British weather unappealing then a luxury, chauffeur

The Derby itself is considered to be the most important thoroughbred
horse race in the world and its status has prompted the creation
of the Kentucky Derby in the US and the Victoria Derby in Australia.
The first recorded race was is 1661 though the Derby, as it is
known today originated the first time the Epsom Oaks race was
run in 1779, when the winner was the Earl of Derby’s horse
Bridget. The race today is over 1 mile 4 furlongs and 10 yards
(2,414 metres) and comes between the Oaks and the Coronation Cup
in the racing calendar. Derby winners often go on to compete in
the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France and the Breeder’s
cup in the United States.
Apart from the excitement of the racing itself, just to take in
the crowd, the tipsters selling ‘certs’, the fortune
tellers, the on course bookies and the fairground hucksters all
go toward making Derby Day a good old fashioned day out. To do
it in luxury and with a sumptuous picnic for lunch is one of life’s
