| The
horse race course at Goodwood, which the Duke of Richmond, laid
out at his estate in 1802, is counted as one of the most beautiful
in the world. Glorious Goodwood is a 5 day race meeting held at
the beginning of August ending a week before the shooting season
begins on the 12th It is one of the highlights of the flat racing
calendar and extremely popular with both the cream of society
and the dedicated racing fraternity. Set on top of the Sussex
Downs, Goodwood is a breathtaking backdrop for some of the very
finest flat racing and is world-class horse racing at its most
relaxed and chic.
The beautiful setting demands an appropriate arrival. A luxury
saloon or Mercedes Viano S Class plus a sumptuous picnic hamper
and good wine complete a day of mouth watering indulgence! If
you are heading for the Richmond Enclosure, ladies are encouraged
to wear hats at the Festival Meeting. Gentlemen are required to
wear jackets and ties, cravats or polo neck sweaters. Linen suits
and the archetypal ‘Goodwood’ Panama hat are traditionally
worn by gentlemen. Needless to say jeans and shorts are not permitted
at any meeting.
Of course Goodwood is not just famous for horseracing. Motor racing
first came to Goodwood in 1936 when the 9th Duke of Richmond held
a private hillclimb through the park. In 1948 he opened the Goodwood
Motor Circuit. The Festival of Speed started in 1993. Here you
will see everything from 19th century steam carriages to current
Formula One, motorbikes, classic rally cars and 3000bhp dragsters
in action plus motor sport legends like Moss, Surtees, Brabham
and Andretti rubbing shoulders with today's hottest properties.
Whether you are heading for the racing or the Festival of Speed
let our liveried chauffeurs and Mercedes S Class and Lexus LS430
luxury vehicles transport you to a world of elegance and excitement.
